PC800-45 / P800-40 Differences
Question:

Hi, My computer has RDRAM and I am thinking of upgrading. Can you please tell me what the 40 or 45 means at the end of PC800- and will both work in any computer taking rdram Thanks
Answer:

The 40 / 45 represent the latency of the memory measured in
nanoseconds. In other words, the lower the number - the faster the
memory. Keeping in mind that RDRAM based computers can only make use
of the speed they were designed for. So while you can install PC800- 40
memory in a natively PC800- 45 machine, the memory will continue to
operate at PC800- 45 making the extra cost useless. However, if your computer requires PC800-40 memory, PC800-45 will not be compatible.
